The Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Abia State Chapter, has accused Ikechukwu Emetu, deputy governor of Abia State, of recruiting youths and mobilising them to attack supporters of President Bola Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The group, in a statement issued on Sunday by Enyinna Nwigwe, urged security agencies to investigate the activities of the deputy governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group claimed that Emetu has been holding a series of meetings with youths he is allegedly recruiting across different communities in the state, particularly in Abia North, and called on security agencies to investigate the meetings, those attending them and their purpose.

“Information available to us is the deputy governor is recruiting unemployed youths across Abia North the stronghold of the APC to attack supporters of President Bola Tinubu during campaigns and the general elections.

“He has been holding series of meetings with the youths he is recruiting across communities. We are therefore calling on security agencies to investigate these meetings, the people involved and their activities before the situation gets out of hand.

“We have information that he is planning to arm youths in some parts of Bende, Ihechiowa, Abam, Isu, Ohafia, Isikwuato, Abiriba and Nkporo communities to cause mayhem and unrest.

“This is not democracy. Ikechukwu Emetu should not set the state on fire out of his youthful exuberance. We call on security agencies to investigate this as information available to us is that Ikechukwu Emetu plans to attack the supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC supporters within this communities.

“Available information is that this attack will also happen in some parts of Abia Central and Abia South, but where he is investing and planning to arm the youths is mostly in Abia North, the stronghold of President Bola Tinubu.

“Emetu had earlier warned to frustrate Tinubu in Abia when he granted an interview in Abuja vowing to deal with the president and his son, Seyi Tinubu in Abia State.”

The TSG Abia State Chapter said the allegations were serious enough to warrant an investigation by the police, and other relevant security agencies, stressing that its demand was for the authorities to establish the facts and take appropriate steps where necessary.

It called for increased security surveillance and intelligence gathering in the affected communities, particularly as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group maintained that supporters of President Tinubu and members of the APC must be allowed to carry out legitimate political activities anywhere in Abia State without intimidation, harassment or violence.

It also warned against the recruitment of unemployed youths for political activities capable of disturbing public peace, urging young people across the state not to allow themselves to be used for violence by any politician or political organisation.

TSG further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders and youth organisations across Abia State to work with security agencies to preserve peace in their respective communities.

The group said political differences should be settled through democratic processes and the ballot box, insisting that no political interest should be allowed to undermine the peace and security of Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections.
