The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has formally declared his intention to contest the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasa has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly for 23 years, first elected in 2003. He has retained the seat through six consecutive election cycles and has served as Speaker since 2015.
He is seeking to succeed Wale Ahmed, the incumbent lawmaker for Agege Federal Constituency, whose first four-year term will end in 2027.
Following the declaration, Obasa’s political protégé and former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Kola Egunjobi, will now seek the APC ticket for Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Egunjobi had earlier begun mobilization for the House of Representatives seat.
Obasa made the announcement on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege, where he said APC leaders in the constituency had urged him to enter the race.
He also called on party members to support Egunjobi’s bid for the state assembly, as well as Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo, who is vying for Agege Constituency II.
The move adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking the APC ticket in Agege ahead of the party primaries. Supporters and loyalists of various candidates have intensified mobilization efforts among party members and constituents.
Residents of Agege and Orile-Age, along with APC members across Lagos State, are now awaiting the outcome of the screening exercise conducted by the party’s state and national leadership ahead of the primaries.
