The Oyo State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has called for the release of students and teachers abducted from two schools in Ogbomoso area of the State almost two weeks ago.
Leaders of the party in state which include Yinka Olona, the Chairman, Barrister Bimpe Adelowo the State PRO, and Honourable Agboola Alphonso, the Oyo South Senatorial District Chairman led others like Mrs Abiola, Honourable Barrister Ruth Adewale and Olaide Tiwalolu Olaoti on a protest procession around the party secretariat in the State Capital on Thursday to demand the release of the students and teachers.
Honourable Alphonso re-echoed the party’s position that the “primary purpose of government at all levels is to protect the lives and properties of its citizens including Oyo State teachers and pupils.”
He added that the government at the federal and the state levels should, as a matter of urgency, expedite actions on how the hostage situation could be bursted without any collateral damage to the abductees.
According to him, as heartbreaking and sensitive as the kidnapping of the Orire School children and their teachers is, one cannot help but ask: Is there not a way for our government to secure their release and ensure their safe return to their families?
He added that this is not the time for politics, blame games, or scoring points. Politics should be jettisoned.
“What matters most right now is the safe return of these innocent children and their teachers to their families,” he said
He stressed that every available lawful resource should be considered, including modern technology, intelligence gathering, community support, and enhanced security operations.
