LAWAL, KWARA SDP CANDIDATE LEADS IN ONLINE POLL, AS WOMEN GROUPS PLEGDE MORE SUPPORT

Less than twenty four hours after the wife of Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Hajia Habiba Lawal commenced women mobilization for her husband ahead of 2023 general elections, the guber hopeful has emerged the preferred choice of Kwara voters in the forthcoming election.

Hajia Habiba Lawal had on Tuesday visited the palace of the Magaji Aare of Ilorin and Baba Isale of Ilorin in Idi-ape, Ilorin East Local Government where women and of different age groups received her warmly and pledged support for the SDP.

In line with the women pledge and commitment, an analysis of a recent statewide online poll by 9japarrot Digital Media and Communications to determine the preferred governorship candidate of Kwara indigenes and residents has given clear victory to Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, the SDP Candidate.

Five Kwara governorship candidates were featured in the Online polled that run for 48 hours. The candidates include incumbent Governor and Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abdullahi Yaman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Oba Abu of NNPP and Alhaji Yakubu Gobir of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

The final results released early hours of Wednesday 26th, October 2022 indicates, 45% of Kwarans prefers and would vote for Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal as Kwara Governor comes in 2023, while 18 % would vote for the incumbent Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The People’s Democratic Party Candidate, Shuaib Abdullahi Yaman had 17% followed by the YPP candidate, Yakubu Gobir who polled 16% votes.

The least preferred candidate is the NNPP candidate, Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem who scored 4%.

Respondents of the survey carried out between 12am on October 24th to 11:59pm on 26th were asked a single question: who would they prefer as the next Governor of Kwara State in 2023: with an option to choose between the 5 major contenders as listed above.

No fewer than 1,927 people participated with respondents spreading across the three Senatorial zones of the State including 16 Local Government in the state. The survey was carried out through an online poll platform (handypolls) with a high response rate.

Similarly, the results from the poll showed that Hakeem Lawal was the most preferred candidate because he maintained the number one position from the beginning of the poll to the end, unlike others who overtook others.

Reacting to the development, the Party maintained that the SDP is fully prepared for the 2023 election and Alhaji Lawal, its candidate is set to become the next governor of the State courtesy of the popularity of his candidacy across the length and breadth of the State.

According to the party, “Kwara SDP is fully prepared and the people are ready to embrace the new face of Kwara transformation and progress which our candidate, Alhaji Lawal represents.
