The aircraft disappeared from radar at about 9:13 a.m., after which attempts to re-establish radio contact failed.

The wreckage was later located in a swampy area near the Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda.

There was no immediate official confirmation of survivors or fatalities, as the Nigerian Air Force, Navy and other emergency agencies launched search-and-rescue operations.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said he had contacted Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and pledged his ministry’s cooperation and support.
