Subject: WHERE IS YOUR EMPATHY? Abduction of School Children and Killing of a Teacher
Your Excellency,
We write this open letter with grief, anger, and urgency.
Once again, a school in our land has been attacked. Children abducted from their classrooms. A teacher killed for trying to shield his pupils. And yet, life continues as if these innocent lives meant nothing. As if the cries of mothers, the trauma of students, and the blood of a teacher are just another news cycle to be scrolled past.
*Where is your empathy, Governor Makinde?*
Security is not measured by press conferences or budget figures. It is measured by whether a child can go to school without fear. Whether a teacher can teach without becoming a target. Whether parents can sleep at night knowing their children are safe.
Today, parents in Oyo State are sleeping on bare floors. Schools are closing. Learning has stopped. But politics continues as if nothing happened.
*CAIDOV demands immediate, visible action:*
1. *Address the people directly* – Not a statement. Face the parents, students, and teachers. Let them see their governor shares their pain.
2. *Make every abducted child a priority* – Deploy all state resources. Coordinate with federal security agencies. Set a clear rescue timeline. No child should be left to “negotiate” their own freedom.
3. *Protect every school now* – Fast-track the Safe School Initiative in Oyo. Fencing, security personnel, emergency lines. Especially rural schools.
4. *Justice for the slain teacher* – His killers must be found and prosecuted swiftly. His family deserves real state support, not just condolences.
5. *Meet the people* – Hold an emergency town hall with parents, students, and education stakeholders. Come out of Government House and listen.
Your Excellency, history will not remember the roads or the slogans. History will ask: When Oyo children were kidnapped, what did Seyi Makinde do? When a teacher died protecting students, did the governor cry with his people or move on?
*Innocent children are not statistics. They are Oyo’s future.* And that future is being stolen while we watch in silence.
CAIDOV stands with the grieving families, the traumatized students, and every parent living in fear. We demand action, not optics. Empathy, not silence.
Oyo children deserve better. They deserve it now.
Yours in grief and in demand for justice,
*Gbenga Soloki*
