On the 4th of June, Abuja Mega Lions Club in collaboration with the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) FCT chapter celebrated 2025 World Environment Day at the Local Education Authority Secondary School (LEA) Area 1, Garki, Abuja. This year’s global theme was “End Plastic Pollution”
Plastic pollution poses significant environmental and health hazards as espoused by Mr Opeyemi Okunlola of the NES, Abuja.
He taught the students on the essential 4Rs of waste management which are; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover. He further encouraged them to take charge of their environment through these daily sustainable actions. A Lions Club member; Ebele Chiatula equally took the students through a breathtaking awareness session that brought to fore how the students would get ready for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.
Highlights of this annual event included Tree planting of mango, orange, guava, soursop and palm trees and the introduction of an Environmental Club in the school to nurture long-term environmental stewardship.
The ceremonial planting was jointly carried out by the School Principal, Head Teacher, Head Girl and Head Boy as well as members of the Abuja Mega Lions Club.
