Akin Oyebode, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Ekiti State, has been recognized with the Innovative Sport Leadership Award by the Nigeria Sports Achievers Awards 2025. This prestigious honor highlights Oyebode’s exceptional contributions to grassroots sports development and his unwavering commitment to using sports as a tool for economic growth and youth engagement.

As a key figure in Ekiti State’s economic and sports sectors, Oyebode has been instrumental in advancing sports initiatives, a contribution duly acknowledged by Governor Biodun Oyebanji. His leadership has played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of sports excellence, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development in the state.

In a significant demonstration of his dedication, Oyebode recently visited the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium to inspect ongoing renovation projects. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of quality and timely execution, reaffirming the state government’s resolve to enhance sports infrastructure and create a conducive environment for athletes.

Beyond infrastructure, Oyebode has consistently urged the Ekiti State Sports Commission to adopt innovative and self-sustaining strategies for sports development. His vision aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to use sports as a tool for economic growth and youth engagement.

Governor Oyebanji has echoed this commitment, pledging substantial resources toward nurturing local talents and creating opportunities for aspiring athletes.

At the award presentation held in his office in Ado-Ekiti, Oyebode reiterated the state government’s steadfast dedication to sports development under Governor Oyebanji’s leadership. As Chairman of the Ekiti State Cricket Association, Oyebode has personally championed initiatives aimed at expanding sporting opportunities for young athletes. He is also the financier of one of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots competitions, the Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup.

“The Governor’s leadership in sports development is truly inspiring, and it’s rewarding to be part of this transformative initiative,” Oyebode stated. “The government has made significant strides, including upgrading the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium and constructing a new Indoor Sports Hall. These projects are not just about infrastructure; they are about creating platforms for young athletes to showcase their talents and achieve their dreams.”

The Nigeria Sports Achievers Awards 2025 continues to serve as a prestigious platform for recognizing excellence in sports. Oyebode’s award is a testament to his relentless dedication and visionary leadership in sports development. His impact will leave a lasting legacy, inspiring young athletes and strengthening the sporting community in Ekiti State and beyond.
