The Edo State Governor, H.E Sen. Monday Okpebholo has signed into law the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law 2025, introducing stricter measures to combat kidnapping within the state. This amendment enhances the provisions of the 2013 law, aiming to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of all residents.

1. Death Penalty for Convicted Kidnappers: Individuals found guilty of kidnapping will face the death sentence. This underscores the government’s commitment to eradicating this heinous crime.

2. Confiscation and Demolition of Properties:
Any property used in the act of kidnapping will be seized and demolished by the state government.
This measure aims to disrupt the operational bases of criminal elements.

3. Severe Penalties for Accomplices:
Individuals who aid or abet kidnappers will also face the death penalty, with their assets confiscated and properties demolished. This provision seeks to dismantle networks supporting kidnapping activities.

By signing the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law 2025, H.E. Sen. Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated bold, decisive and people-focused leadership, ensuring that criminals face the full weight of the law.
