The trial of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal progressed on Tuesday afternoon. Testifying, the first prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas, told the Tribunal that N4 billion was traced to one of Saraki’s account with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
This was amid a surprise entry by the lead counsel of Saraki, Kanu Agabi (SAN).
Agabi was earlier represented by Paul Usoro (SAN), who said the absence of the lead counsel was as a result of flight hitches.
Agabi came in after the tribunal had overruled the defence’s request for the adjournment of the trial.
The basis for the request was a case filed at the Court of Appeal by the defence. The defence team, led by Paul Usoro (SAN), standing in for Kanu Agabi (SAN), had sought an adjournment of the trial pending the outcome of the suit at the Court of Appeal.
But the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, said he was not willing to accommodate such request
